Introduction: The Cancer Registrar Sr. is responsible for case-finding, and abstracting core data items that include pertinent information about the patient, the disease, and its management into an electronic system. The Cancer Registrar Sr. assists in training of registry personnel, adheres to the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) guidelines and requirements for approved programs. Complies wth requirements mandated by the Texas State Department of Health Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requirements in terms of timeliness and completeness of reporting.

Job Description: Responsibilities of the Cancer Registrar Sr. include, is not limited, to the following:

  • Case finds all reportable cases and ensures abstracts are completed according to specific guidelines.
  • Performs data retrieval and statistical analysis of registry data.
  • Submits monthly data to the Texas Department of Health and other applicable reporting agencies.
  • Works with the Systems Analyst to maintain the electronic system updates.
  • Provides input into revisions and/or new policies and procedures related to the registry abstracting requirements.
  • Participates in continuing education programs and in-services to enhance job knowledge.
  • Coordinates, documents and submits statistical studies as required by reporting obligation or facility request.
  • Attends committee meetings and reports on the behalf of the Registry.
  • Provides monthly productivity and employee quality statistics.
  • Maintains documentation of Registry data requests from external requestors.
  • Performs quality and productivity monitoring for employees and participates in other specialty reviews.
  • Works closely with Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH) facility contacts to ensure case abstraction and state submission for Baylor entities is done consistently.
  • Maintains and protects the confidentiality of patient records.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal Cancer Registrar Sr. candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education Qualifications:
Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED equivalent required.
1-3 months of related on-the-job training required.
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) required or must be eligible to complete the Tumor Registrar Certification
